The Egyptian National Railways (ENR) awarded two tenders to a consortium comprised of Elsewedy Electric, integrated engineering company (GIECO), and Egyptian Railways for Track Renewal and maintenance company (ERTRACK). The consortium has offered the lowest prices for two railway projects tendered by the ENR, through which it will carry out overhaul work on different lines. The first tender involves the maintenance and renewal of El Delta railways with a 110-kilometer length, including 133 switches; While the second tender includes the rehabilitation and improvement of the Naga Hammadi - Luxor railway of a 91-kilometer length, with 283 switches.

Elsewedy Electric has been playing a key role to implement the Egyptian government’s strategy that aims to make transportation an effective catalyst for growth of national economy and promotes Egypt as a global trade hub; by developing an integrated, sustainable, and safe transport system. Egypt’s rail system is one of the most sprawling in Africa and the Arab World. The 9570-km network runs both freight and passenger services. The Ministry of Transport initiated 12 projects to add 424 km of railway track to the network, as well as working to modernize the one already existing to improve its efficiency.
